Vodafone

Vodafone is the new name of the familiar ‘Hutch’ that existed with a dog that supposedly followed everywhere. Well, the dog is still there lurking around and so are the tantrums of this cellular service! Before we dig up deep into the cellular services lets have an overview of sorts about the company.

Hutch that was renamed Vodafone after an acquisition, is considered to be one of the top three leading cellular service in India. Vodafone is a common name worldwide. Headquartered in Berkshire, U.K, it is the world’s largest telecommunications network company in terms of the turnover generated. In India too it has managed to make a prominent place for itself with a customer base of around 49.1 million according to the survey conducted by the cellular operators association of India in the first half of the year 2008.

Vodafone which has launched it own set of Mobile too, has good services offered in terms of the money value schemes. Like all the leading companies, Vodafone too provides plenty of good postpaid and prepaid offers. The tariffs too are by par the standards in the market. In fact, the tariffs are more flexible compared to other private companies (except Spice). The recharge options are wide and a host of value added services make for an enticing package.

In spite of the excellent services offered, the customer hardly gets all of it!! There lies a basic difference between ‘offering’ and ‘obtaining’ things. Perhaps the ‘biggies’ in the Vodafone offices do not understand the difference completely, but the average customer does it completely, all thanks to Vodafone Cellular Services. Again, the ‘second nature’ of private companies comes into the picture – more on publicity and less on actuality of the publicized stuffs! Among the umpteen jokes that is passed around on Vodafone and other cellular services alike, one of the hottest would be of the ‘wherever you go the network follows!’, implying the network just keeps following and you don’t actually get hold of it where you are!

One of the major drawbacks is the inadequate coverage coupled with poor voice clarity. This problem persists even in bigger cities leave alone town and smaller cities! The customer care maybe good or bad, which hardly matters as there is less of quality content offered that can be taken care of! These problems which had been the second name of Hutch were expected to be resolved on the much hyped change to Vodafone! But many feel, it’s just the name that has changed and the rest is still in the same old bad taste.

However, there are few people who do see a positive change in Vodafone services. The optimum value added services and flexible price ranges makes Vodafone a good option for few. The latest in the schemes are the Vodafone mobile sets, offered at economical rates. In the entirety, Vodafone still remains to be the best for ‘few’, in the huge country called India. Fingers crossed until some adequate changes is seen, which isn’t a surprise to happen on account of the large company hands behind!
