Virgin Mobile

It’s hardly a year since Virgin Mobile made its entry (or was it lateral entry?!) into the Indian market and one often tends to have a soft corner for this little baby while reviewing it. Isn’t it too early to judge Virgin mobile? It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Virgin mobile is still a virgin in the world of wireless communication. At least in comparison to its counterparts who have been here since long (some of them ever since the time when mobile was only meant for the ‘rich class’ forget the ‘upper middle class’!). So, having told the above concerns lets review its performance till now without exactly calling it a ‘review’!

‘Virgin mobile’, a catchy name, a huge company back-up, attractive plans but all that done a bit late! Virgin mobile has dared to enter the saturated mobile industry (as some think so), although if the sales figures tells a different story of the mobile industry still having a long way to go! Truly so! The advancement in technology and improvement in products/development of new products is bound to entice buyers and compel them into the ‘human nature’ act of disposing their existing products. So, that is where Virgin mobile should catch on and it actually does so to some extent.

Firstly, many believe that Virgin mobile has come up with good promotional campaigns to lure buyers. But the fact is, it is actually showcasing itself in a very low key fashion and anyone who has been to the nearby stores to have a look at the ‘plans’ of Virgin mobile, will agree on this hands down. The plans of Virgin are by far the most customer friendly one. Brace yourself for this- you get paid for incoming calls and even the outgoing calls aren’t priced heavily! The plans fit in almost all budgets and have some nice ‘add ons’ to it to make it more attractive and tempting (like the nurse in that advertisement of theirs!). However, many of the marketing brains are of an opinion (that too a strong one!) that Virgin mobile was left with no other option than to cut down on rates, for it was the only (read the only pragmatic) way to get some customers for itself in the world of established wireless communication players! So, you have some snazzy mobile handsets and a virgin prepaid connection for a staggeringly low price! The handsets are usually of Haier and are great for the money they are offered at.

The network of Virgin Mobile is more or less comparable with Tata Indicom. Its great for some and some can’t have enough of slang words for it! The customer service too is up to the mark. One of the reasons for Virgin’s low pick-up is due to its ‘bad advertising’ (they aren’t letting the public know their real forte!). After making waves in UK, Virgin is poised to set its own standard in India. One just has to wait and watch the coming days for the exact position of Virgin in the market. It has arrived late, but as they say better late than never!
