An olden age conception would be of private service providers being the best and the government services are after all ‘government’ services and we all know how they are!! But, BSNL (abbreviation for Bharat Sanchar Nigam limited) cellular service in India effectively proves the conception to be not completely (or not always!) correct.
BSNL, one of the largest public sector units of India, also happens to be the world’s 7 th largest telecommunication company! It offers a wide range of services that includes internet, CDMA mobile, GSM mobile, VSAT, broadband, carrier service, MPLS-VPN, VOIP services, IN services and so on. One of the distinguished features of BSNL is its wide coverage. It can be rightfully called one of the first companies to initiate the rural-urban digital divide. It has not just reached to smaller towns and villages, but has made few earlier inaccessible areas, accessible. In the basic services, it has no rivalry near its vicinity as it leads with roughly 85 percent of the subscriber base. So is the case with Internet services. BSNL has been adjudged the number one (read it best among the rest!) ISP of India.
Talking about the BSNL cellular service, the statistics says it all. BSNL boasts of more than 17.8 million customers accounting about 24 percent of all the Mobile users in India. The fact that every fourth mobile user in India subscribes to BSNL cellular services can be attributed to its wide ranging and transparent billing system. Both prepaid and postpaid services are offered, both giving effective services for the money paid. There are a wider range of plans to be chosen from if you are opting for postpaid and as per the customer feedback, all of them are worth the money put in. The tariff plans of BSNL are some of the best available in the country. Very few cellular services offer the cheap tariff plans and rates like BSNL does. The advantage of BSNL would be the coverage, which is excellent in almost all parts of India and the billing system that’s transparent as much as realistically possible. Take for example plan 525, the supposedly best, it offers a 15 sec pulse rate!! BSNL truly provides everything for everyone.
BSNL Cellular service provides all India roaming facility along with international roaming facility to 300 odd networks across the world. A host of value added services too are offered at economical pricing ranges like Voice mail service, SMS, group messaging, call forwarding, call holding and waiting, call conferencing and other common ones. You can easily obtain the detailed physical copy of your bill for evaluation and on the payment of the bill online you’ll be rewarded with a 1% discount on the next billing.
One of the drawbacks of BSNL Cellular Services is its poor customer service call centre. Low on technical matters and even in few basic updates about BSNL tariff plans they don’t come across helpful in needy times. Another drawback would be its poor publicity! There are many who aren’t aware of the schemes offered and simply end up considering BSNL service unworthy.
